  1. Users can permanently customize the astrology program by running
  2. the program distributed with it called CUSTOM96.COM.  Entering
  3. your favorite options at this program's screens and then saving
  4. your changes to file will store them in a file called CUSTOM.AST.
  5. The ASTROL96 program reads this file upon loading and customizes
  6. itself in accordance with the user's wishes.  The desired options
  7. that are in effect can be viewed at ASTROL96's Custom Set-Up
  8. screen.  If the CUSTOM.AST file is not present, or a particular
  9. option was not customized, the program default will display.
  10.  
  11. CUSTOM96.COM can also be used to permanently save your personal
  12. registration code so that you do not have to retype it at the
  13. program registration screen at the start of each session.  This
  14. is done by running CUSTOM96.COM in the directory in which you
  15. will be running ASTROL96 and entering your registration code once
  16. at the CUSTOM96 screen.  At the Program Registration screen of
  17. ASTROL96 you will then be able to automatically retrieve your
  18. registration code by pressing the F1 key at the registration code
  19. prompt.

  21. For users who want to deinstall the astrology program from their
  22. hard disk, the CUSTOM96.COM program provides a utility in its
  23. Supplementary Menu that will delete the special registration code
  24. directory.

  26. You can change the initial chart display mode from the default
  27. tabular format to graphic chartwheel format by answering Y to the
  28. first question at the Custom Set-Up screen.  Then when you next
  29. review or calculate a chart the results will display in the new
  30. mode.  Release 9.5 added selections to redisplay a chart in either
  31. mode to the Calculation Options Menu and Saved Chart Options Menu.

  33. RUN CUSTOM96.COM TO PERMANENTLY SELECT THE FOLLOWING OPTIONS
  34. The default house system is the Placidus house system long known
  35. in the English-speaking world from Raphael's Ephemeris and
  36. Raphael's Tables of Houses.  Placidus houses utilize a complicated
  37. time-based system of house division.

  39. Customers have requested the ability to select the following
  40. alternate house systems.
  41.  
  42. The Koch house system is a time-based system very similar to the
  43. Placidus house system.  Also known as the Birthplace system, it
  44. was first published by Dr. Walter Koch in 1971.
  45.  
  46. The Equal House System - Western Style assigns each house thirty
  47. degrees starting from the Ascendant.
  48.  
  49. The Equal House System - Eastern Style assigns each house one
  50. zodiacal sign starting from the Ascendant or rising sign.  Planets
  51. fall within a house if they fall within its zodiacal sign.
  52.  
  53. The Campanus house system is a space-based system which derives
  54. its houses by trisecting the quadrants formed by the intersection
  55. of the horizon and meridian with the great circle known as the
  56. prime vertical.
  57.  
  58. The CUSTOM96.COM program gives you the option of having your
  59. charts calculated according to the Sidereal zodiac instead of the
  60. default Tropical zodiac.  The Sidereal zodiac is tied to the
  61. constellations while the Tropical zodiac is tied to the ecliptic-
  62. equator nodal points.  Precession of the equator causes the nodal
  63. points and Tropical zodiac to move relative to the constellations
  64. at the rate of 1.4 degrees per century.

  66. The program will accept a 'delta' factor of up to 90 degrees in
  67. either direction from the standard Western sidereal zodiac.  The
  68. CUSTOM96.COM program prompts the user to enter this factor if the
  69. user selects the sidereal zodiac.  This is for the convenience of
  70. users of non-Western sidereal zodiacs, such as Indian astrologers.
  71. One such customer uses a delta factor of 59 minutes.  The delta or
  72. offset represents a disagreement over the zero Aries point of the
  73. sidereal zodiac and will be constant over time.

  75. CUSTOM96.COM allows the user to customize whether the program
  76. includes the Ascendant and Midheaven in aspects, midpoints, chart
  77. comparisons, and transits.  The program default is to include them.
  78. The default is not to include the moon's nodes, but the program
  79. can be customized to include them as well as to display them.  The
  80. program can be customized to display the Part of Fortune.

  82. The program can be customized to print tabular format charts to
  83. an ASCII format file on disk instead of to the printer, in which
  84. case the prompt will change from Print Hardcopy (Y/N) to Print to
  85. ASCII File (Y/N).  Version 9.6 extends this file print facility to
  86. the listings of aspects, midpoints, and chart comparisons.

  88. The planet that the transits list starts from can be customized to
  89. be any planet from the moon to Pluto.  The duration of the list
  90. period can be from one to twelve months, except that if the
  91. transiting planets include the moon then the maximum duration is
  92. one month and if Venus then the maximum duration is six months.

  94. At the Supplementary Menu of CUSTOM96 there is an option to change
  95. the text and background colors of the astrology program's text
  96. screens from the default yellow and black.  A couple of customers
  97. who have color graphics cards but monochrome monitors have told me
  98. that the program's text screens appeared fuzzy.  Changing the text
  99. color to light gray or white should solve this problem.

  101. The continuous form feed option at the Supplementary Menu asks 
  102. whether the user wants continuous form feed printing or wants print
  103. pauses in which to change paper.
